I've just replaced the cartridges in my printer with some compatible ones I bought a few months ago. Now I get a "supply problem" message..... I've found a couple of workarounds but they all need me to downgrade the firmware on the printer - I can't get into the service menu to allow this (it asks for a password)
Any ideas gratefully received....

Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Are you using HP genuine ink?
Unfortunately, you cannot downgrade the firmware.
We'll have to perform a reset on the Printer for this. I have sent you a private message, for more details that cannot be shared in a public post.
Please do check your inbox on the communities page for the private message.

I have already downgraded the firmware in the printer which now allows me to use the compatible toner. If I follow your instructions will I then be able to turn off the automatic firmware updates to stop this happening again?
Thanks

No it wouldn't 🙂
You can do it from here:
From the Home screen on the product control panel, open the Setup menu. ● For touchscreen control panels, touch the Setup button. ● For standard control panels, press the left or right arrow button. Scroll to and open the Service menu, open the LaserJet Update menu, and then select the Manage Updates menu. Set the product to automatically update the ƭIrmware. ● For touchscreen control panels, set the Allow Updates option to NO, and then set the Check automatically option to NO. ● For standard control panels, set the Allow Updates option to NO, and then set the Automatic Check option to NO.
