I have been using my printer with a Windows 7 laptop for several years, but recently got a new Dell desktop running Windows 10 Version 1809.  When I connected the printer, Windows recognized and displayed the model correctly but indicated "Driver Unavailable."  I went to the HP site which says the driver IS available.  I proceeded with the download and (eventually) found and opened the executable (hp_LJP1100_P1560_P1600_Full_Solution-v20120831-50157036_SMO).  After a while a box came up saying "Extraction failed can not open output file."

So... we're still without a printer and looking for suggestions!

Thank you Praveen196 for helping me with the Laser Jet P1606dn installation on Windows 10. It appears all is well now.

On the Control Panel >Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers page, my printer was listed as a Device, not a Printer.  I believe this was why I was having so much trouble.  When I followed the link you gave me to another document, I was instructed to disconnect any USB connection before proceeding.  This helped me discover that I had connected both a USB cable from my desktop computer and also a network cable from the router.  When the USB cable was removed, the printer moved into the Printer row from the Device row.

Now (on the Devices and Printers page) I could select “Add a printer” from the top row.  On the next page I clicked the link “My printer is a little older, help me find it”. The next page said “Windows detected that a driver is already installed for this printer. “ I selected the option to use that driver and continued.  The software responded:  “You’ve successfully added HP Laser Jet Professional P1606dn (copy1)”. The test page printed, and I did a quick test of a two-sided printout. I think this must be a full-featured driver!

@CorneliusRW Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that you are looking for printer drivers for Windows 10 operating systems.

Unfortunately, there is no specific printer driver for windows 10 operating systems.

I would suggest you try the Windows built-in drivers. Follow the steps below:

•    Go to Control Panel - Devices and Printers - Click on "Add a printer" and follow the on-screen instructions.

•    When the page prompts for the drivers, select "Windows update". The driver list will be updated.

•    Click HP, Hewlett Packard, or Hewlett-Packard in the Manufacturer pane, and then click the name of your printer in the Printers pane.

Refer to this document HP Printers - Installing and Using the Windows Built-in Print Driver for help

let me know how that pans out,

And the answer to the above question will help me, help you!

Keep me posted, and if any of the above questionnaires helped resolve the issue,

Good luck.

@CorneliusRW

I understand your concerns.

As of now, there is no full feature software and drivers for this model.

You have to use the builtin drivers only.

However, We will forward this feedback to the concerned team.

Have a nice day!!
