Hi @dkh9
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The HP LaserJet 4000 is an older printer model, and while it may still work with some modern operating systems, finding the right driver for macOS Sequoia (which is likely referring to a macOS version after Monterey, possibly macOS 13 "Ventura" or "Sonoma") can be tricky since it's not officially supported in the latest drivers from HP.
Here are steps you can take to get the HP LaserJet 4000 working on your macOS system:
1. Use the Built-in macOS Printer Drivers
macOS often includes built-in drivers for many older HP printers, including the LaserJet 4000. Here’s how you can check and set it up:
- Connect your LaserJet 4000 to your Mac via USB or network (Wi-Fi or Ethernet).
- Open System Settings (or System Preferences, depending on your macOS version) and select Printers & Scanners.
- Click the "+" button to add a printer.
- If your LaserJet 4000 appears in the list of printers, select it and macOS should automatically download the appropriate HP driver.
- If it doesn't appear, click the IP tab for network printers, or USB for a direct connection.
- After adding the printer, try printing a test page to check if the printer works with the built-in driver.
2. Download HP's Generic Printer Driver
HP provides a universal printer driver that should work with a variety of older HP LaserJet models, including the 4000. Follow these steps:
- Visit the HP Support website: HP LaserJet 4000 Support Page.
- Look for the HP Universal Print Driver. This is a generic driver that supports a wide range of HP printers.
- Download the HP Universal Print Driver for macOS. You may be redirected to the HP Easy Start tool, which should automatically detect your printer.
- Follow the installation instructions to set up the driver.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
