Hello. After installing the recommended HP driver software for this printer in a new computer the printer apparently got an update and is no longer functional. After a power cycle it says initializing, then throws the error indicator and starts initializing again. It is stuck in an endless loop. How can I reset this to get back to the default state. Thanks in advance.

Hi @allenbsacctg,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Laserjet M1212nf is stuck on initializing, resetting the NVRAM (Non-Volatile Random Access Memory) may help resolve the issue. Here's how to reset the NVRAM on your printer.

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Press and hold the right arrow button and the cancel button simultaneously.
  • Turn on the printer while still holding down the buttons.
  • Keep holding the buttons until the printer display shows "Permanent storage init."
  • Release the buttons, and the printer will automatically reboot.

Once the printer has rebooted, it should no longer be stuck on initializing. However, note that resetting the NVRAM will also reset any custom settings you may have configured, so you will need to reconfigure them if necessary.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
