Hello @Boss89 ,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!

The HP software must be completely uninstalled and removed of the system.

First download only this complete package: "HP LaserJet Full Feature Software and Driver ",

now here's what you need to do:

  1. Disconnect printer/scanner from computer- Disable WLAN, WiFi and/or remove the USB or LAN cable.- Do not switch off the printer >> unplug the power cord from the socket!
  2. Uninstall HP printer software, and then remove the printer from your Devices list.
  3. Reconnect the printer to the power supply and switch it on (if this does not happen automatically)
  4. Please note: WLAN has to be deactivated!
  5. Restart the PC
  6. Close all programs
  7. Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo > in folder Downloads double-click on the EXE,
    File name: HP_M1130_M1210_MFP_Full_Solution-v20180815-10158769_1.exe
  8. Note: Do not connect the USB cable until prompted.
Via USB, means wait until the installation asks to connect the printer.
  9. The installation was completed successfully, now you must ...
  10. Restart the System again
  11. Now the installation is complete.

Document error messages accurately, even better is to take a screenshot of it and upload here.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

I have tried this and the install takes hours. Does that make sense that it says "Installing HP LaserJet Pro M1217/1218 MFP Series" for 5 hours? It doesn't finish. It says New device is now connected... and just keeps installing.

Please advise?

or a response is awaited.
Sometimes the small windows are hidden behind the large windows.
... controlled?

Which printer connection was chosen?

I selected USB connection. There were no prompts that appeared. It just keeps running until I have to shut it down.

It has been running like this for over 6 hours. What next?

I see 2 inactive windows here.
Click on the upper window and then on "Back".

When I click on the upper window, that says New device now connected, none of the buttons are available. I can minimize the window or if I select the X, it says are you sure you want to cancel the set up.

Both windows are active. In the top window there are yellow dashes moving on the cord signifying transfer of data.

The bottom window has blue boxes building across the lower window signifying the installation, which has now been going on for 8 hours with no change.

This is not a new printer to this PC. It has been in use on this machine for over 10 years.

Right-Click on Start (Windows-Icon) > restart the system

After the reboot, wait a few minutes and then open "Device and Printer".
Is the printer visible?
And is the printer "Online"?
