The latest and recommended Drivers have been down loaded. The scanner is not recognized by windows even though the Scan Icon is present but will not activate. Using HP Print and Scan doctor the Scan TWAIN and Device Driver are in "error". In addition the Doctor advises the software driver version is out of date?
There are no errors on the Printer install according to the Doctor. I have uninstalled and replaced the driver package 3 X with the same results.Any thoughts?

The HP software must be completely uninstalled and removed of the system.
First download only this complete package: "HP LaserJet Pro MFP M125/126 Series Full Software and Drivers ",
1) File name: LJPro_MFP_M125-126_full_solution_15311.exe (108.8 MB)
and
download only this package: "Readiris Pro ", File name: Readiris14ProHPWin.zip (381.8 MB), the download will take a little longer!
Then proceed as follows:
Check the system for
- TuneUp`s
- Optimization Tools
- Cleanup Tools
disable them, better uninstall them.
Important information: you must log in with admin rights!
Next...
- Disconnect printer/scanner from computer- Disable WLAN, WiFi and/or remove the USB or LAN cable.- Do not switch off the printer >> unplug the power cord from the socket!
- right-click Start, search for "control panel" and open "Programs and Features"
uninstall all HP printer software > via "Programs and Features" - right-click Start, search for "control panel" and open "Devices and Printers"
In the "Devices and Printers" window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.” - Restart the PC
- Close all programs
- Change File-Explorer-Settings:View > Options > "Change folder and search options" > Tab "View"
- enable > Show hidden files, folders and drives
- uncheck > Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)
- search for "HP LaserJet Pro MFP M125" and delete all this folders
- Empty the TEMP folders
A) C:\Users\[Your user account]\AppData\Local\Temp\
B) C:\Windows\Temp\ system files cannot be deleted! - Reconnect the printer to the power supply and switch it on (if this does not happen automatically)
- Please note: WLAN has to be deactivated!
- Restart the PC
- Close all programs
- Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo > in folder Downloads double-click on the LJPro_MFP_M125-126_full_solution_15311.exe.
- The installation was completed successfully, now you must ...
- Restart the PC again
- Now the installation is complete.
Via USB, means wait until the installation asks to connect the printer/scanner.
Document error messages accurately, even better is to take a screenshot of it and upload here.
Important information:
- Change back the File Explorer settings -
- enable > Don`t show hidden files, folders or drives
- click button > Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)
If the complete printer software was installed without errors, then now the "Readiris14ProHPWin.zip" can be installed.
Unzip, double-click setup.exe.
After installation, restart the system.

Thank you for your post.
In addition to the uninstall tasks and clearing Temp Folders I downloaded CCleaner and ran the registry tool which found multiple HP keys which I also deleted. Then Uninstalled CCleaner and performed reboot PC.
Then the install process began with no errors except the Proxy Server/Registration process which failed.
Rebooted PC, Scan works with no errors, printer Works with no errors.
