Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The printer was working fine until something got updated, presumably by Microsoft.

There are 2 very different problems.

1. I am unable to print via wifi

2. I am unable to install the HP printer driver I downloaded for this printer

1. It seems I am now using a hard-coded driver from Microsoft, which I am unable to replace with one from HP. I can print via USB without the options I used to have with the more advanced HP driver.

I have tried re-installing drivers via the start-up procedure when purchasing the printer including the wifi connection.

Yes, the router is plugged into the electricity jack, is close to the printer and is connected to the internet.

2. I have tried using the device manager to remove the driver and when that didn't work, the entire printer to force a complete re-install.

When I start the driver I downloaded from HP for the printer it does nothing. The process is not listed in the task manager either, it simply vanishes. All that is present is "HPSupportSolutionsFrameworkService.exe".

I have downloaded different versions of the driver from different locations to avoid any possibility of a corrupt file somewhere.

I am asking for help to do 2 things:

1. find a way to re-connect to wifi

2. remove the MS driver and replace it with the HP driver

Thank you

@FredWhatever,

I'm glad to hear you found the solution, however, seems to have an issue. Don't worry as I have a few other steps which should help you resolve this issue.

If the light is steady blue, then the printer is connected to the network. If the light is flashing, then the printer is not connected to the network. Go to Setup - Network - Wireless setup wizard to connect the printer to the network.

Once the printer is connected to the network, then assign a static IP to the printer:

  • Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to get the IP address.
  • Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
  • Go to "Network" tab - General - Select "Network protocols" - Select "Enable IPv4 only" (or similar) - Apply the settings.
  • Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)
  • Click on the radio button which says “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.
  • Click on radio button which says “Manual DNS Server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)

Create TCP/IP Port:

1. Search Windows for devices, and then select "Devices and Printers" In the list of results.

2. Right-Click the name of your printer, and then select Printer Properties.

3. Click the Ports tab, click on "Add port" select "Standard TCP/IP Port" and click "New Port"

4. Click next on the Add Standard TCP/IP printer port wizard, enter the printer IP address and click next and then click on "OK".

5. Now under the "Ports" tab you will find the newport with the printer IP address, click "Apply" and "OK".

6. Restart the computer.

@FredWhatever,

Thank you for posting this on HP Support Forums!

I see from your post that you're having issues while connecting your printer to the network. Don't worry we'll work together to help you find a solution.

In this scenario, I would suggest here is to restore the printer to the factory settings and then do a a root level uninstall and reinstall of the printer drivers.

Let’s start by performing a network power drain. Follow the steps below:

Turn off all the devices connected on your network including the PC, Smartphones, printer, modem (if present) and router. Make sure all the devices in the network are turned off / unplugged.

Wait for 2-3 minutes.

Now turn on the modem if present. Wait till all the lights are steady and idle.

Then turn on the router. Again wait for a couple of minutes so that the lights are all steady.

Then turn on the PC and other devices.

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor to check connectivity

Download a special version of HP Print and Scan Doctor specifically created to help with printer offline conditions.

  1. Download HP Print and Scan Doctor.

  2. Run HPPSdr.exe from the download location on your computer.

  3. Once HP Print and Scan Doctor opens, click Start, and then select your printer.

    • If your printer in not in the list, turn it off and on, and then click Retry.

    • If there is a connection problem, follow the instructions in HP Print and Scan Doctor.

  4. If a screen prompts you to turn on printer updates, click Yes.

  5. If a screen prompts you to make your printer the default printer, click Yes.

  6. Try to print. If the printer remains offline, continue to the next step.

If the issue persists, let's restore the printer to the factory-set defaults:

I suggest you uninstall the printer drivers from the root level and then reinstall them by following the below steps:

  • Press “Windows key” + “r” to get the “Run” window.
  • Type "services.msc" to get Services – Go to “Print spooler” – Right-click and “Stop” the service.
  • Now again open "Run" - Type “spool” and ok - Go to PRINTERS folder - delete everything in that folder.
  • Go to services again - Start the print spooler.
  • Now check for issue resolution.
  • If the issue persists, also try clean installing the printer drivers. Here are the steps:
  • First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP LaserJet printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Please click here to download and install the software.
  • Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

Once the printer is successfully connected using USB connection. Please follow the steps from this document to convert to Wireless connection.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Eagerly waiting for your response!

Hi,

The error description with the same problem as mine with the driver package in another post was most helpful and helped me install the printer driver manually, which HP can't do for some reason.

Reading through your descriptions re connecting the printer to the PC, I found one item interesting and when I tried the Scan & Print doctor, which I already had, again, I went to the devices and printers window and clicked on install a new printer and as port entered the IP address I was presented with by the Scan&Print doctor.

This then triggered a new entry and after removing the initial USB printer, I was again able to print via wifi.

I don't know for how long, but I managed to get the work done I needed to.

Thanks for your suggestions.

However, the wifi connection indicator, a blue LED, was on. Steady.

But as the driver was broken, there was no communication between spooler and printer.

I applied the manual IP process to set the printer up and install it, so, yes, that worked.

Thanks

Hi, I have exactly same probrem and would like to ask about print and scan doctor. As the link doesn't work anymore, I goodle it to download. My system is in Japanese, some term may not be exactly the same.

Run HPPSdr.exe. Plug out USB cable.

It says the printer is not connected. Choose wireless network.

Choose printer is not connected to network.

Choose printer without display panel.

Then it comes to this screen. I don't know what to do next.2019-03-29 (2).png

It suggests I can setup wirelessly with the help of USB connction, but as it only has "back" button, so I am stuck. Thank you for your help in advance.
