My printer stopped working recently, there was just an orange light on the front.

So I tried to uninstall and then reinstall it.

Now I can't get into setup mode, by pressing the "i" until all lights light up, and then hold down the wifi button and "X" for a few seconds. That would normally kick the printer into setup mode, where after a minute or so, I could have the HP Smart app search for a new printer, once that front panel light was purple.

Now what happens, is that it starts to go purple, for just one second, then goes to orange, and I can't run the HP Smart. It just never finds the printer.

Have spent HOURS and HOURS on this. Even spent $60 on a new cartridge, and shelled out money on a USB cable, thinking that would be easier. What a waste of money. I've lost all faith in HP products after this. The setup process if horrific. Never buying another HP product again.

In the meantime, I'm hoping someone can help me get it reinstalled because I have a time-sensitive project I need to print, and have already spent half a day of wasted time and spent close to $100 bucks to get it to work.

Please help!

You need to press and hold wi-fi button for 20+ seconds to get in the wireless setup mode, then you use your HP smart app to search for printer.

Thanks for the suggestion.

That seems to put the printer in setup mode, as the light becomes solid purple. But then HP Smart does not find it.

I ended up fixing it the other day. Somehow miraculously was able to get HP Smart to find the printer, installed some stuff, then accessed the printer via web browser and did factory reset. After that, I was able to run through the only setup procedure that has worked for me in the past, which is not mentioned in the manual or any of the documentation HP has online, which is hold the "I" down till all lights up, then press "wifi" + "X" for a few seconds, let it reset and once light turns solid purple, then and only then can I run HP Smart.

Anyways, this is definitely the last HP printer I buy, especially because of their scarcity mentality approach to forcing customers to buying ink from them. It's ridiculous. Forcing the issue with a chip, and then making people agree when they log in online. HP just lost a long-time loyal customer. I've been using HP printers for the past 20 years. Probably bought about 8 to 10 of them. And now, never again, because of the ink issue but also because the setup process if excruciatingly difficult. I even went out and bought a USB cable, thinking that I could just plug in and install. But of course not, it's an HP.

Later days HP...
