Tried to install my LaserJet pro 100 color M175 with HP easy start, print worked perfectly , but scanner is not detected.

I confirm that local access is  allowed.

I tried to install with HP smart, did not detect at all the printer/scanner.

Tried to install directly from my Mac - Install new printer, worked as well but only for the printer, not the scanner, same as HP easy start.

Any help ? Thank you

Hi @SefHas,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Update macOS and Printer Firmware: Ensure that your macOS and printer firmware are up-to-date. Outdated software can sometimes lead to compatibility issues.

  • You can check for macOS updates by going to System Preferences > Software Update.
  • For printer firmware updates, visit the HP support website.

Install HP Easy Start: Even though you've installed HP Easy Start, make sure you have selected the Full Feature Software and Drivers during installation.

  • Go to 123.hp.com and enter your printer model number.
  • Follow the installation steps and ensure that both 'Essential Software' and 'HP Easy Scan' check boxes are selected.

Verify Scanner Settings: Sometimes, the scanner might not be configured correctly for network scanning.

  • Access the printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS) by entering the printer's IP address in a web browser.
  • Navigate to the Scan settings and verify that network scanning is enabled.

Use HP Smart App: Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your macOS device, which can help in detecting the printer/scanner during setup.

  • Download and install the HP Smart app from the Mac App Store.
  • Open the app and follow the prompts to add your printer.

Try Alternative Scanning Methods: If HP Easy Scan and HP Smart App fail, try using built-in macOS applications like Image Capture and Preview.

Scan Using Image Capture

  • Place the item you want to scan on the scanner glass or document feeder.
  • Open Image Capture from the Applications folder.
  • Select your printer from the Device list.
  • Click Show Details to adjust the scan settings.
  • Click Scan.
  • Place the item you want to scan on the scanner glass or document feeder.
  • Open Preview from the Applications folder.
  • Select File > Import from Scanner.
  • Select your printer from the list.
  • Click Show Details to adjust the scan settings.
  • Click Scan.

Reset Printing System: If none of the above steps work, try resetting the printing system:

  • Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  • Right-click (or Ctrl-click) in the printer list and select Reset printing system.
  • Add your printer again using HP Easy Start.

I hope this helps.

Hello and thank you for your feedback.

Unfortunately did not work. Printer is detected and installed, but Scanner is not detected at all. All drivers and firmwares are updated.

For your information, I connect my MacBook Air M4 to an Apple 27 Thunderbolt screen thru a genuine Apple adaptor Thunderbolt 3 (USB -C) to Thunderbolt 2. My Apple 27 thunderbolt is working as screen and dock station.

No issue to connect to the ethernet network, to use USB A ports and no issue to print and scan to a network connect Canon iR1133 (Printer and Scanner are detected and installed).

No issue as well to print on my Laserjet Pro 100 thru USB port (connected via Apple 27 Thunderbolt).

Sole issue remain is scanner with Laserjet Pro 100.

Thank you again.

Hi @SefHas,

Thanks for sharing all the detailed info, super helpful!

Since the scanner isn’t being detected at all even though printing works fine and everything's updated, this definitely seems like a deeper compatibility or driver support issue between the LaserJet Pro 100 M175 and macOS 15 (Sequoia), especially with Apple Silicon and the Thunderbolt dock setup in play.

Here’s what I suggest next, my smart cookie:

HP Easy Scan Isn’t Supported for M175

This is important: unfortunately, HP Easy Scan doesn’t support scanning on the M175 for newer macOS versions (esp. Big Sur and later). This model lacks AirScan (eSCL) or ICA scanner driver support, which Apple now prefers over TWAIN.

Use Image Capture – Direct USB

Try this, just to confirm if anything responds:

Connect the printer directly via USB to your MacBook (skip the Thunderbolt display for this test).

Open Image Capture (Applications > Image Capture)

See if the scanner shows up on the left pane.

If it doesn’t: yeah, macOS 15 may have dropped support for this scanner driver entirely.

As a last resort... Scan to Email or USB

If the scanner still works via the control panel on the printer:

You might be able to scan directly to a USB stick or use the Scan to Email option from the printer’s panel (if configured via the EWS – Embedded Web Server).

I hope this helps.

Hello,
I tried your other solutions, unfortunately not successful. I also tried to change the USB/USB C Adaptor and the USB cable, but same issue. Only printer detected.
For direct scan, my printer does not have any scan option on its panel, only print (color and black). Thank you.
