Laserjet Pro M203dn
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Laserjet M203 is new.

Install on 3 PCs (Win 7 pro, up to date) correct with last software from HP site.

2 PCs print normally through LAN

3rd PC (was formerly printing through a Laserjet 1100, installed in 2011):

- refuses to print from Windows (Err msg when trying to print test page from printer properties "The test page cannot be printed,...."). From Word, Excel,... no errmsg but no print....

- When trying to print from Win the sleeping LJet is awaken (but that's all...)

- same behaviour through LAN or USB

- HP Print & Scan Doctor don't see anything and SUCCEEDS IN PRINTING its own test page

- Replacing the M203-M206 PCL 6 driver by the MS Laserjet 1100 driver makes the M203 able to print (but no recto-verso function, etc...)

- Desinstalling the HP1100 don't change anything

- Desinstalling and reinstalling the M203-M206 software don't change anything

CLEARLY THE PRINTER RECEIVES BUT DOESN'T UNDERSTAND WHAT THE PCL 6 DRIVER SENDS TO IT

BUT WHY ?

Welcome to HP forums, I see that you are getting issues in installing the printer driver.

Did you remove the printer driver from the root level and reinstall?

If not, follow the below steps:

Perform root level uninstalltion to remove all the printer related software's.

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Remove all instances of the same.
  • Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
  • Close Devices and Printers.
  • Restart the PC again.

Install the full feature driver for the printer

Let me know how it goes.

Thank you fot taking care of my problem.

In fact I install/desinstall several times before submitting my post.

However I didn't experiment the last step using printui.exe /s ... and remove all instances.

I will try it in a while but before I  have some new points to point out.

When connected with another account (only used  as backup administrator) on the same machine  it works normally.

When connected with my regular account (which is also an administrator):

- Windows cannot print its test page (with error msg)

- Word, Excel,  Powerpnt, Outlook,... don't print with or without msg

- as mentioned in my post Print ans Scan doctor can print its test page

AND (NEW):

- it is possible to print an image (jpeg or pdf acquired with scanner)

THUS IT SEEMS THAT THE PROBLEM IS WITH TEXTS (???)

Finally I removed everything regarding the M203, then lauched the printui.exe /s : nothing there was left  there after desinstall.

After reinstalling the full package, the problem is still the same.

Thank you for any other ideas
