HP LaserJet Pro MFP M130 series
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I have read a number of people having problems installing this printer on a Win 7 64bit computer, I am another person having the same problem. We have purchased four of these printers all are causing major issues trying to install the software using either a USB or Network connection.  It seems to install all the scanning parts of the software but the printer drivers just won't install, tried everything!! Works ok with Win 10 so must be a driver issue with Win 7 64bit. HP really needs to get a fix for this as lots of users are still on Win 7 64bit.

Hi! @SteveNorwich, Welcome to HP forums.

I understand you have issues installing the printer software using USB or ethernet connection.

Don't worry I'd like to help you out.

Did you make any changes to your printer?

As you mentioned you have issues installing the printer software using USB or ethernet connection.

If you are able to make a copy from your printer try the steps recommended below.

Try the steps recommended below.

Let’s first try to fix this issue using HP Print and Scan Doctor (PSDR). PSDR is an automated tool which can diagnose and resolve printing and scanning problems. Please go to http://hp.care/2bZ9w2q to download and run HP PSDR. Once you open the program, select your printer and click on “Fix Printing” to automatically diagnose and fix the issue.

If the issue persists, then I’d suggest you perform a clean install to try and fix the issue:

  • First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP LaserJet printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Now click http://hp.care/2vXuS9r to install the software.
  • Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

No your fix doesnt work, after trying every possible way to install and part install this printer finally got it working, took over an hour! Their is a major problem with this driver and windows 7 as it seems to install the scanner part but not the printer drivers. Installed two of these now in our work place each one took over an hour each and neither followed the same method to install.  Tried it on a windows 10 computer as well and all installed as you would expect with a new printer.  Its a windows 7 issue, so with no working solution coming from HP I would say don't buy this printer to work on a windows 7 platform, its not worth the hair loss 🙂  Windows 10 its fine....

Hi! @SteveNorwich, I appriciate your efforts for writing back to us.

As you mentioned the issue still persists after trying out the steps.

I believe we have to give “ENUM” permission on your registry to try and fix this issue.

Note: An incorrect registry entry can cause serious system problems or prevent the computer from starting. If you must edit the registry to resolve issues, you should always make a backup of the registry.

Please follow the steps mentioned below to take a registry backup and to give ENUM permissions:

First, uninstall the printer drivers completely by going to – control panel – all programs.
Once the drivers are completely uninstalled, restart your computer.
Press “Windows logo key” + “R” to get the run pop-up window. Type “regedit” and press ok.
To back up the entire registry, click Computer. Click “File”, and then click “Export”. Type a name for the backup file and save the backup copy to the location of your choice.
Now, to give the ENUM permissions, expand the “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE” – “SYSTEM” – “CurrentControlSet”.
Right-click on “ENUM” and select “Permissions”. Now click on “Add”.
In the “Enter the object names to select” field type “ADMINISTRATOR” and press ok.
The administrator will be added on the “Group or username filed”. Now click “Advanced”. You will get the “Advanced Security Settings for Enum” window. Select the “Permissions” tab.
Select the Administrator field – Edit – And select the box next to “Full control”. Press ok. Repeat the exercise for all the type except for “Everyone”.
Now select the “Auditing” tab select “Add”. Again add “Administrator” field. Edit and give full permissions.
Apply the settings, and exit out of registry.
Now install the printer software drivers using this link http://hp.care/2vXuS9r

If the issue still persists it is a problem with the operating system, try reinstalling the operating system and check if it helps.
