Laserjet Pro MDF M477 fdw

After I recently updating my printer's firmware to the latest version (20201022) it will only print single sided when I try to print from my Mac. Before the F/W update duplex printing from my Mac worked. I don't know if this is a coincidence.

2-sided copying works, so I know the duplexer unit is working.

The printer is connected via WiFi to a Mac running OS 11.2.1 (not MacOS 10.15 as listed because the pull down menu doesn't include MacOS11!).

I have done the following:

- power cycled Mac, printer and router

- deleted and reinstalled the printer and driver

- tried duplex printing from different applications (Word, Acrobat, Preview)

- verified in the printer's web page (system>paper setup) that duplexing is on

- verified when I use the print command that the two-sided option checked

- verified that duplex tray is checked in the printer setup >options tab

- verified in the HP Printer Utility app "Duplexer installed"

The only slight suspect thing is that when I view the configuration page from the HP Printer Utility app under Device Configuration, the duplexer version shows as 0.

When I try to print from my smartphone using HP app am not able to change the print option "2-sided" from Off to On.

Any ideas what I can do to enable duplex printing?

After multiple attempts to delete and reinstall drivers etc. without resolution of the problem I decided to take the nuclear action and do a hard reset of my printer.

Thankfully this worked and I can now print in duplex again.

Can you duplex copy?

If it will copy automatically in duplex you have a computer/driver issue.

Thanks for your message.

As mentioned in my original post I can duplex print which is why I reinstalled the printer driver, but this didn't solve the problem.

Is there a way to do a factory reset, I think this may be my next option?

Sorry, I missed the part where you confirmed that the duplex is working, if the duplex is working then there is nothing wrong with your printer.

Your problem is with your driver/computer.

Thanks for your reply. It's good to know there's nothing wrong with my printer, so no need for a factory reset.

I have deleted the printer via the control panel and also performed a printer system reset then reinstalled the driver, but I still have the problem of not being able to print in duplex from my Mac and smartphone.

I'm wondering if there's a way to remove all software and data associated with the printer. For example I have "scan to folder" set up but after deleting my printer driver from /library/printers/hp/ when I add the printer driver, the old "scan to folder" settings are remembered, which makes me think not all the data associated with the printer is removed when I deleted the printer via the control panel.

Do you have any other suggestions on how to do a complete reset of my printing system?

Sorry, my knowledge of MAC OS is basic. Google it, you are probably not the only one with the same/similar issue.
