Hello,
I use either the HP Smart app or the windows printing interface, the error is in both.
Wifi connection.
The m140we cannot print double-sided automatically, but it should do it manually.
I choose double-sided in either of the apps and choose how will I flip the papers manually. Long end or short end.
The apps accept the choice and I can choose Print.
The printer then accepts the job, "overwrites" the whole order with its own agenda, and proceeds to immediately print the whole job one-sidedly.
I think the m140we should be able to print two-sided with manual assistance halfway through the job.
What do you think overrides the order?
I have installed the printer using the HP Smart app process with my smartphone.
Thanks,

Specs for this printer make no mention of duplex ability.

That means you would only be able to manually duplex, which would normally show as an option.

The driver may have incorrectly configured itself with a duplex option. As stated, the specs for this device do not mention duplex printing at all. If you believe that your device does have built in duplex, it might be your paper settings that are wrong. If you have the paper tray on the printer set for Any Type/Any Size this will stop any advanced printing options such as duplex from working as the printer does not know if installed media is suitable for that type of job. You should always configure paper trays to match the actual media installed such as letter size and plain type.
If the printer does not have duplex, you can try this to restore manual duplex capability. On your computer, go to control panel>devices and printers and right click on the icon for your printer and select "printer properties" from the drop down menu. Click on the advanced tab and confirm that it shows an HP driver and not a Microsoft IPP or Class driver. Then click on the device settings tab, scroll down to installed options and turn off "duplex installed" option.
follow the instructions in the user guide to print duplex manually http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c07833315.pdf

Thank you Repairatrooper.
I have tried all your tips, but the problem persists.
My whole question was not about an automatic double-sided feature. I know the printer can't do that.
But the manual option is always overridden.
The HP Smart app offers no options for double-sided manual printing.
I choose double-sided from my pdf viewer, and then the app apparently accepts the job, takes over and prints the only way it can. One sided.
The driver tip was good, it was Microsoft. I set it to HP, but it didn't change anything.
I had no "duplex installed" option to deselect.
I will try to reinstall all of the drivers.
All I'm looking for is for the printer to accept that I will flip the papers mid-job.
If the problem persists, I will literally look for external apps which can override this glitch.
If you have any more tips, I'm all ears.
