I have A HP Lasrjet  M476 on which I try to use the USB connector to make a printout as the other options hangs the printer.

I have successfully updated the firmware to the latest version 2021-04-08.

I have formated the USB stick with a primary partition of 4GB with FAT, not FAT32. See picture.
The USB stick is of size  32 GB.

Despite the correct format the printer tells me that the format type is wrong and I need a USB with FAT format.

I have not found anywhere that there is a limit of the size used, only that it has to be FAT formated.
