My HP printer update the firmware and now it is failing the "security check" for the cartridges.  It's years old and is no longer under warranty - so I could care less if I use HP cartridges or not!

If I can't downgrade to an older firmware - I'll shoot this now boat anchor and NEVER purchase an HP product again!

I can't seem to find anything but the current firmware and can't back it out.  I really am ticked as I have spent hours running this crap down.

I don't even use a brand-name single cup coffee makers because they tried to pull this same crap.

Any help toward an older firmware would be appreciated

Thx..

Congratulations!  You found what I found before posting.  If you would read further you would find that my current issue is that I can't find any firmware other than the current one.

Maybe you'll have more luck with that one.  IF I knew of a firmware to actually look for, I could search for it too.  But the only thing I see on HP's site is the current one.

Thanks,

@eSleepy, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.

I understand you are not able to use non-HP ink cartridges.

There is no older firmware available to install.

Check if this is a Dynamic security enabled printer. The Firmware Update may prevent supplies with non-HP chips or circuitry from working.

Note: For printers manufactured prior to December 1, 2016 dynamic security will not be enabled by the firmware. Please note that HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of non-HP cartridges.

You may refer to this document -  HP Printers - Dynamic Security Enabled Printers

If the issue persists, please reach out to the HP Technical Support team in your region for further assistance.

You may create a case on the website to obtain a case number if required. Kindly watch this video to know how.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.

So Kumar0307,

Are you implying that it is completely moral and legal to HP to sell me a printer and then dictate where I must purchase supplies for that printer?  Must I use HP paper next as well?

There was no warning on this printer when I purchased it that I would be forced to only us HP printer cartridges.

* I'm more than willing to discuss my refund on the product. *

Other than that, your message was pretty worthless as everything that you told me I had already found out before I posted - which is "why" I posted.  I know that older code exist (even though HP has hidden it).

The firmware is available for download on the 2nd google search result, read that article carefully and you will find a link for download. The author uploaded it so that other users can download it for free.
