Product: laserJet Pro M12a
Operating System: Linux

I have a question for you. is HP Laserjet Pro M12a able to connect and print to the Ubuntu 16.04?

I have tried to locate at http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install_wizard/index.html

and it is neither listed in the supported nor unsupported devices?

 

Is anything else on the hplipopensource.com list compatible to it, and be used to connect to this printer?

I think this model is a GDI printer. It accepts raster patterns from the PC unlike supporting a real print language.

So this is a problem compatibility-wise.

 

The only way possible to use it through linux is to install a virtual box with an operating system (Microsoft XP?) , that a driver is provided for by HP, and do a 'network' printer share through the Virtual machine. More on google.

It is a bit slow but it should work.

Btw I canceled my HP order for this printer.

I wish i had researched a bit more before buying this printer. I took it for granted that there would be linux support.

 

If there is indeed a compatible driver from a previous model, for ubuntu, i would like to know too.
