Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hello,

I would like to know which all HP printers are supporting PCL 5e.

We are writing a printer driver using PCL 5e for an embedded device, by which reports can be printed directly from the device.

So we have to decide on some printers to be tested as a part of validation testing.

This support page for the Universal Printer Drivers appears to show which printers are supported by the various UPD variants.

Note that some printers are only supported by version 6.2.0 (or later) of the UPD - note that the last PCL 5 variant of the UPD was version 6.1.0.

So a particular model may be shown as not being supported by the UPD PCL 5 variant, but this may merely be because the model was not supported until after version 6.1.0 (after which the PCL 5 variant was discontinued) - by the device itself may still support PCL 5.

I don't think that there are any published lists of which printers support the various different Page Description Languages. - such lists would, of course, occasionally be quite useful, if accurate.

In general:

  • Most inkjet devices only support raster-based languages (e.g. PCL3 GUI, PCL3 Enhanced).

  • Some of the business-class inkjets instead support one or more of the 'traditional' PDLs: PCL5 (PCL5e or PCL5c); PCL6 (PCL XL); PostScript (PS).

  • Most laser printers, except for the cheaper ones, also support the traditional PDLs.

  • Some of the cheap laser printers are 'host-based' and only support (proprietary) raster languages (e.g. JetReady).

  • Some of the newer, smaller, laser printers only support 'mobile' languages, such as PCLm or PCLmS (these are based on the PDF format, with job-ticketing features).

  • PCL5 is gradually (but very slowly) being 'marginalised'; I suspect that some newer devices support PCL XL and PostScript, but not PCL5; HP produces Universal Printer Drivers (UPDs), but from Windows 10 onwards, there is no PCL5 variant, only those for PCL XL and PostScript.

Hello,

I would like to know which of [https://support.hp.com/gb-en/document/c04324001] these printers are available in India.

May I know to whom shall I contact to get this information?

I tried calling local dealers, however they are not able to answer this query.

Thanks for your support.
