OfficeJet Pro 7740

I just acquired a **new out of the box** 7740. I went to do setup in the Embedded Web Server via the IP address. For whatever reason, I must’ve screwed up on my password. Now, I get locked out without the ability to reset my PW. How do I get back in or am I forever locked out?

Hi @pacislandgirl,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding resetting the embedded web server password for the HP OfficeJet 7740!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Kindly refer to this link to update your printer firmware.

Important Considerations:

  • Restoring factory settings will reset all configurations on your printer, including network settings and any stored data.
  • After the reset, you will need to reconfigure your network settings and other preferences.

Accessing EWS Post Reset:

Find Printer IP Address:

  • Once the printer restarts, find the IP address from the printer control panel under Settings > Network Settings > View Network Summary.

Open EWS:

  • Enter the IP address into the address bar of a web browser to access the Embedded Web Server.

Default Credentials:

  • If prompted, use the default username, which is usually "admin." If there is a default password, it should be listed in the printer documentation or on the HP Support website.

I hope this helps.

Hi Kuroi,

Followed the link which only updated the firmware. It didn’t have instructions to factory reset the 7740 from the printer before I go to the EWS.

I went to the printer and searched around, I found it at:

Settings>Printer Maintenance>Restore>Restore Factory Defaults

I went to the EWS. Where do I find the default PW in the documentation you referred to in your answer? Twice I've reset the default, tried to set a PW (copy paste from a doc). When I go to sign in, it won't accept the new pw (using admin as UN).

What next?

Thanks!
