I have the HP OfficeJet Pro 9020e series. The last person that used this printer locked all the functions and need that username and password, and we don't have it. Anyway to factory reset the printer without an username & password? The "Restore Network Settings" is also locked.

Hi @michgohn

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how challenging it can be when a printer is locked and the username and password are unknown—it can really slow down your work.

Let’s look at what can be done to regain control without having the login credentials.

Factory Reset Without Username and Password

Unfortunately, if the printer’s functions and network settings are locked behind a username and password, a standard factory reset from the control panel may not be accessible.

However, you can try the following steps that might help reset the printer to default settings:

Power Reset

Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.

Wait about 60 seconds.

Plug it back in and power it on.
Sometimes this can clear temporary locks.

Hard Reset via Button Combination

Some models allow a hard reset by holding specific buttons while powering on (for example, holding the Power button and Cancel button simultaneously for 10-15 seconds).

This varies by model, so you might try holding down the Power button for 10 seconds to force a reset.

Service Menu Access

On certain HP printers, pressing and holding specific buttons or sequences during startup opens a service menu where resets can be performed without a password.

These sequences are model-specific and not officially documented for security reasons.

Contact Support for Unlock Assistance

If these options don’t work, the most secure and effective approach is to contact support directly with proof of purchase.

They can guide you through unlocking or servicing the device while maintaining security.

Important Note

Resetting without the password may not be straightforward due to security measures designed to prevent unauthorized access. It’s essential to proceed carefully to avoid unintended data loss or device lockout.

If you want, I can help you contact support or walk you through any of these steps. Just let me know.
