HP Deskjet 6500 series
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I have an old HP Deskjet 6520 hardwire USB connected to one of our home network computers it works well on that computer running Win 10 Pro 32bit.

The printer is identified as HP Deskjet 6500 series.

However wanting to print from another computer on the home network. Tried to install by Settings->Printers and Scanners-> Ad a printer. wont find it.

Same procedure this time ->Find a printer by other options->Select a shared printer by name ->\\computer\printer name. It does show but when clicking next  it goes looking but can't find a driver to install. The 6520 driver it finds will not work.

Where can I download the HP Deskjet 6500 series driver? It may be a legacy driver but I can't locate it in HP drivers site.

Any suggestions nd help will be appreciated.

Hi,

The driver is available from Windows Update and can manually be installed from the Microsoft Update Catalog.

You may download and extract the driver for Windows 10 32-bit from the Microsoft Update Catalog below:

http://download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/driver/drvs/2009/07/4189_1228a7cf7b1aac21346b20c...

If your other computer may have a 64-bit OS use below drivers, I'm not fully clear from your description if all PCs are 32 bit or not:

http://download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/driver/drvs/2009/07/4188_bacd1413e93b4a6362d9a2c...

You may follow the below steps to extract and install the driver from the Microsoft update Catalog using the Add Printer Wizard:

ShlomiL,

 Thanks for your suggestions.

To clarify: the printer is USB connected to a PC running Win 10 Pro 32bit.

The computer that cannot see or communicate on the network with that printer runs on win 10 Pro 64bit.

I followed your suggestions. Downloaded the 64bit OS drivers. it was a .cab file. Extracted to a a new folder with the name of the printer (HP Deskjet 6500 series). So, once more I tried Settings-> Devices-> Printers and scanners-> Add a printer-> Select a shared printer by name-> \\computer name\ printer name.

It goes looking for the printer and an error window shows telling it cant find a driver so I click OK to guide it to the .inf file in the folder mentioned above and it starts installing but immediately comes another error window saying no driver installed because it can't communicate with the printer.

I'm stuck there, the computer can't get to that printer.

Thanks again for your help and suggestions.
