When I set up my HP Color LaserJet Pro 3201dw last year I must have changed the pin and/or password.
Every time I try to log in to the locked menus on the device, through the EWS page or in the HP Smart app I get an invalid credentials error.
I’ve tried the PIN that is on the sticker, any pin I’ve ever used for anything, and several passwords with no luck.
How can I do a factory reset to get access to these again?

Hi @waden34,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

We understand how frustrating it can be to be locked out of your HP Colour LaserJet Pro 3201dw due to forgotten credentials, especially when even the default PIN no longer works. When you're met with "invalid credentials" over and over,

Please try the steps below, which will help to try and resolve the issue.

Administrator Reset via Control Panel

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Press and hold the Cancel (X) button and the Right Arrow button on the printer panel.
  3. While holding both buttons, turn the printer back on.
  4. Keep holding the buttons until you see the "Permanent Storage Init" or "Reset" message on the display.
  5. The printer will reboot and perform a full reset.

After Reset:

  • The printer will return to factory default settings.
  • You can then access the EWS (Embedded Web Server) and menus without credentials.
  • Use the default PIN (found on the printer label) to log in again or set a new one.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thanks for the response.
I tried the steps you outlined but it doesn’t work.
When holding the cancel button and the right arrow it takes longer for the printer to start up, but I never get an Init or Reset message.
I held them down until the screen saver kicked on to no avail.
Anything else I can try?

Thanks,

Jeremiah

Unfortunately not yet. Nothing I’ve tried has worked.

1.At the printer control panel, use the control pad to select Menu option, and press OK button to confirm. 2. Press the down button to select Tools and press OK button to continue. 3. Select Maintenance and press OK. 4. Select Restore settings and press OK then change the desired settings

Then Restore all factory defaults

IF for some reason you do not see these options on the menu then unplug power from the printer and wait 1m. Hold down X and right button same time and while doing that plug powercable and keep holding it till it comes up all the way up, then go through the menu again
