HP LaserJet Pro MFP M225dw

Hi, I lost the admin password for my HP LaserJet Pro MFP M225dw. I referred to the manual for factory reset of password, and it says I should go to setup --> service menu. However, the service menu requires a password. So I am stuck. Can you please tell me how to do a hard reset of the password, without needing the password to do it?

thanks,

Hi @hydertext,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

We understand you've lost the administrator password for your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M225dw, and you're unable to access the Service Menu to reset it. We’re here to help guide you through your options.

Steps to Perform a Semi-Full Reset:

⚠️ This will erase all custom settings and return the printer to out-of-box condition. Use with caution.

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. While the printer is off, press and hold the back arrow (◀) and cancel (X) buttons on the control panel.
  3. With both buttons held down, power on the printer.
  4. Continue holding the buttons until the HP logo or "Permanent Storage Init" appears.
  5. Release the buttons and allow the printer to finish initializing.

This process should trigger a semi-full reset, which clears all stored passwords and custom configurations.

💡 After the Reset:

  • You’ll need to reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi or Ethernet network.
  • The admin password will be blank, allowing full access to all settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
