Lost starter ink

Hiya, 

I have lost the starter ink cartridges that work provided for my printer, and I can't seem to complete setup without them. I have bought official HP 305 ink cartridges, but they are not working. 

Can anyone advise on how to proceed? I can't believe the printer is unusable without these starter cartridges!
