M102w
macOS 12.0 Monterey

Hello,

I'm trying to install the latest driver for my HP LaserJet Pro M102w on my computer, but the installation process is stuck on the "HP Product Improvement Study" step.

There is an unexplained input field below the question “I primarily use HP Products and services”, which seems to require a 2-character code in the format [A-Z][0-9]. I have tried entering several combinations like A1, B2, S3, etc., but no matter what I enter, it doesn't pass the field validation which prevents me from proceeding to the next page.

What I've already tried:
Toggling between In the home and In a business

Leaving the field blank

Entering letters, numbers, and special characters

Downloading the latest driver from the official HP website

Rebooting and reinstalling the software

Running the installer as administrator (on Windows)

Testing on a different Mac - same result

This appears to be a bug in the installer UI.

This field doesn't seem to serve any valid purpose for end users.

The issue blocks the entire installation and prevents me from using the printer.

Is there a workaround or a version of the installer that bypasses this step?
If this is a known issue, when will a fixed version be released?

Thank you!

Hi @hj8779

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

If you're encountering a problem with the installation process for your HP LaserJet Pro M102w, specifically at the "HP Product Improvement Study" step, here are some steps to resolve the issue:

Steps to Resolve Installation Issue on macOS Monterey

Skip/Bypass the Prompt:

  • Sometimes, you can bypass this step by trying a different installation method. If there's no "Skip" or "Next" option available, restart the installation process without submitting any information.

Check for Software Updates:

  • Ensure your macOS is updated to the latest version to ensure compatibility with drivers and installation packages.

Use HP Easy Start:

  • Download and use HP Easy Start for macOS from the HP Support website. This software may streamline the installation process and bypass detailed prompts like the Product Improvement Study.

Clear Previous Installations:

  • Uninstall any previous HP software if you've attempted installations before. This can be done by using the HP Uninstaller and then restarting your Mac.

Download Directly from HP:

  • Ensure you are downloading the driver directly from the official HP website for your specific printer model and macOS version.

Verify Security & Privacy Settings:

  • Check your Mac's Security & Privacy settings to ensure the installer has the necessary permissions to run.
