M102w
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Ths is connected to PC by USB cable.

Installed minimum driver package.

Install completed all the way through registering product.

After install, Windows printer icon displays the Troubleshoot icon.

Trouble shooting finds nothing.

Did full install, same results.

Printer panel shows green, ready to be used symbol, but Windows still dislays Troubleshoot icon.

Downloaded HP Print and Scan Doctor.

It finds the printer on the PC but says it is not installed.

Ran install through Print and Scan Doctor and it completes through registration.

Still get Troubleshoot icon.

I've done this routine, multiple times on two different PCs, same results each time.

Currently have this same printer model installed on a 3rd PC which is identical to the two PCs I've just tried.

Any suggestions much appreciated.

Hi,

That may happens on Windows 7 machines with a USB 3 card, follow these steps to resolve the problem:

  1. Connect the printer to the PC.
  2. Click the Start button and type %temp% into the search bar, locate the latest HP installation folder which begins with 7z (e.g 7z1234s)
  3. Copy the folder path from teh top address bar.
  4. From Devices and Printers, right click the background area and select Device Manager.
  5. Expend the Universal Serial Bus Controller category.
  6. Locate your printer instance which starts with Null Print, right click it and select Update Driver Software.
  7. Click Browse my computer for driver software.
  8. Click Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.
  9. Click Have Disk and paste the installation folder path (which was copied on step 3)
  10. Complete the wizard, the Troubleshoot icon should no longer appear and the printer software should now open as expected.
