macOS 10.14 Mojave

I am running OS 10.14.6 on a 2016 Macbook Pro. In researching apps that may not work with the forthcoming OS 10.15 (Catalina), the software that drives this printer came up in a system report of items that are not 64-bit. Does that mean this printer won't work with Catalina? Or is there other 64-bit software (e.g., Apple Airprint) within the Apple OS that drives this printer?

Hi,

Your printer drivers are available via Apple Software Update or AirPrint, both should likely work with Catalina once released, but it is better to wait for more official information upon the operating system release.

Mojave also supports 64-bit software only so nothing much new in here, I believe it should work on the later OS too.

Is it likely that the scanning software integrated with this multifunction printer will also work with Catalina?

As best I understand it, the key difference in Catalina is that it won't support 32-bit apps, whereas Mojave still had that backward compatibility as well as supporting 64-bit apps. My list of non-64-bit apps is relatively short--41, with six of those related to HP--and some of the key ones I know will be updated to work with the new OS.

HP hasn't updated drivers for this machine since 2013, so if t is all driven by AirPrint now I should be ok. But I have no idea how to check what software the printer/scanner/fax is using.

Hi Neil,

Airprint uses ICA drivers for scanning, those are provided via Apple Software Update and supports 64-bit as part of a native OS application (Apple Image Capture backend)

Also, HP Easy scan is a native 64-bit app, I believe it should work with no issues
