@NKWEDAGE, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Configuring Media Types for Printer Trays!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

To specify which media sizes and types are loaded in each of the available source trays for your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M227fdn, you will need to configure these settings using the printer properties in Windows. Here are the steps you can follow:

Accessing the Properties Tabs

  1. Click Start on the Windows taskbar.
  2. Go to Settings and then click Printers.
  3. Locate and right-click the name of your printer (HP LaserJet Pro MFP M227fdn).
  4. Click Properties.

Configuring the Trays

  1. In the Properties window, find and select the NT Forms tab (for Windows NT 4.0 environment).
  2. Use the Available Trays drop-down menu to select the tray you want to configure.
  3. Use the This Tray Contains/Size (Forms) drop-down menu to select the media size for that tray.
  4. Use the This Tray Contains/Type drop-down menu to select the media type configured for that tray.
  5. Repeat steps 2-4 for the remaining trays.
  6. Click OK to enable your settings. You can use the Clear All button if you need to reconfigure all trays and remove the size and type constraints from the Paper tab.

Example: Adding a Secondary Tray for Envelopes or Checks

  1. Select the Secondary Tray: Use the Available Trays drop-down menu to select your secondary tray that you want to use for printing checks or envelopes.
  2. Media Size: Select the appropriate media size (e.g., envelops or checks) in the This Tray Contains/Size (Forms) dropdown.
  3. Media Type: Select envelope or check stock type in the This Tray Contains/Type dropdown.
  4. Finalize Settings: Confirm the configurations and click OK.

By following these steps, you should be able to configure the secondary tray in your printer settings and ensure it appears in the paper sources selection. If the tab is not available or if the printer model isn't updating, ensure bidirectional communication settings are enabled.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
