I am working with a Microsoft Surface tablet that only has 1 usb port.  I purchased a hub to add additional ports, but unfortunately I purchased an unpowered one.  Apparently this printer requires more power coming from the usb port than an unpowered hub can provide.  According to the HP Doctor software:

Make sure an open USB port is available on your computer. Do not connect the printer to a USB hub or docking station as the printer might not receive enough power to operate properly.

Can anyone tell me what power requirements I should be looking for in a powered hub?  Some of them are rated in watts while others are rated in volts.  Other than the above recommendation, I see nothing that specifies what I should be looking for.

Thanks in advance for any assistance,

Shawnvh1

Your tablet has wireless, and the printer also has wireless why don't you connect them wirelessly?

Valsimot,

Very good question.  The simple answer is that I have wasted countless hours trying to print via wi-fi direct.  Sometimes the tablet and printer communicate nicely, but most of the time they don't.  I've powered off and on both, updated drivers, updated the printers firmware to no avail.  I'm tired of the hassle associated with wireless and simply want to do a hardline.

The tablet's USB is way too weak in watts to handle a printer, you will hardly find exact details for power in watts needed for a laser printer, but for sure powered USB hub is way stronger in power than a USB port on a tablet.
