The printer has 6 months and can’t print anything now. It just shows the message: Printer cannot print. A problem has occurred and you will be unable to print, except for printer reports. I checked the connection, updated the driver and tried every fix option without results

Hi @JH-issues,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the error message on your HP LaserJet MFP M234sdw indicates an internal issue that may be software- or hardware-related. Here are some steps you can take to address this problem:

Step 1: Check for Printer Reports

Since the printer allows you to print reports, print a Configuration Report:

  1. On the printer control panel, press the Information button or navigate to the Reports menu.
  2. Select Configuration Report or a similar option.
  3. Check the report for errors or warnings.

If the report prints correctly, it confirms the issue is related to specific print jobs or the communication between the printer and the computer.

Step 2: Perform a Full Power Reset

  1. Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cable.
  2. Unplug the power cable from the wall outlet and wait for 10 minutes.
  3. Reconnect the power cable and turn the printer back on.

Step 3: Factory Reset

Performing a factory reset may resolve software-related issues:

  1. On the printer control panel, navigate to Setup > Service > Restore Defaults.
  2. Confirm the reset. This will restore the printer to its original settings.

After the reset, reconnect the printer to your network and reinstall the drivers.

Step 4: Update Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer

Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date:

  1. Download the latest firmware for your printer from the HP support website.
  2. Follow the instructions to update the firmware using your computer or the HP Smart app.

Step 5: Reinstall Drivers and Software

  1. Uninstall the current printer drivers from your computer:
    • On Windows: Go to Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a Program.
    • On macOS: Use the HP Easy Start tool or drag the HP software to the Trash.
  2. Reinstall the drivers:
    • Download and install the latest drivers from the HP Support website.
    • Use the HP Smart app for a guided setup.

Step 6: Inspect for Hardware Issues

Check for potential hardware issues:

  • Inspect the paper path and toner cartridge for jams, debris, or incorrect installation.
  • Remove and reseat the toner cartridge.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
