My one-year old M254dw displays Ready 2 Download  fw is corrupt. I can't make that go away or get the printer to do anything else. Can someone help me find an answer?

A warm welcome to HP Forums! This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries.

Power resetting the printer and manually updating the printer firmware may resolve the issue. Let's try these steps:

1) Make sure this printer is plugged into a direct wall, not a surge protector

2) Remove all of the toner ink cartridges from the printer and close the door

3) Remove the power cord and all other cables  from the back of the printer (Do no press the power button)

4) Wait for at least 30 seconds. Plug the power cord back into the printer

5) Wait for the printer to turn on completely, then install the toner cartridges.

6) Download and install the latest firmware update from here.

Let me know how it goes!

Thank you for responding but, unfortunately, it did not work. When I follow your instructions by downloading & trying to install the latest firmware update, it starts Device Discovery but nothing happens. The wheel just keeps on spinning and it goes no farther.

Am I doing something wrong or do you have another suggestion?

I'm afraid, the only option left is to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer. The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may brick the device. I've send you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer. In order to access your private messages, click the private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Forums profile, next to your profile Name or simply click on this link.
