A couple of days ago my printer suggested a firmware update, so I selected it and let it run. The printer booted normally yet would not print. I turned it off and then on again, reloaded the printer, and then discovered it was showing a 49 error. I turned it off and on again, and it got stuck in a boot loop where it flashes a 49 error, and then the screen fades to white and it reboots itself. I've tried rebooting the computer, rebooting the printer, unplugging for several minutes and restarting, removing the ethernet cable...nothing breaks the boot loop cycle.

I tried downloading the firmware updater to my computer, and Apple won't run the HP software due to a potential security issue that HP needs to fix.

Any suggestions for how to do a hard reset and potentially update the firmware via the USB port if a hard reset won't cover it?

Thank you. This seems to be a really common issue and also seems to be HP's fault with the firmware update. It doesn't look like anyone on that thread has been able to find a solution, either, nor has HP chimed in with any help.

Able to get the update to the printer but unable to download.  When I hit "download now" on printer it loops back to the error "resend upgrade".

Following post to hope for update from HP.
