My Printer turns off every 8 Hours and does not let me turn off the sleep mode feature. Is there a software update I can use to turn off that feature on the printer? I do not want to get rid of this printer because a lack of a feature.

Hi @reedtaft,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

HP printers, including the M283cdw, are designed with energy-saving features such as Sleep Mode and Auto-Off or Power Save Mode. Here are some insights on how these features work and what options are available to adjust them:

Sleep Mode: This feature puts the printer into a lower-power state after a period of inactivity. It cannot be completely disabled, but you can adjust the time it takes for the printer to enter Sleep Mode.

Auto-Off or Power Save Mode: This setting might be making your printer shut down completely after a set period (usually two hours). Unlike Sleep Mode, Auto-Off turns the printer completely off, requiring you to press the Power button to turn it back on. You can adjust or disable this feature through the printer's control panel or software settings.

Since updates can improve features and fix certain issues, you may check for any available firmware updates for your printer, which could provide additional options for managing power settings.

To update the firmware:

  1. Visit the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page.

  2. Enter your printer model, and check for available firmware updates that may offer additional features or improved management of energy-saving settings.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
