HP LaserJet Pro MFP M29w Printer

My trusty M29W is no longer connected to my network after my MacOS 14.6.1 update. I've done the usual fixes. I deleted the printer in. my settings, but I am not able to reinstall. I tried to reset my router to bring it back, but I'm just getting a flashing blue light on my printer. It does print what is in the queue if I push the button on the printer. But it won't connect back to my network - I pressed the WPS button on my router, but they are not talking to each other. I bought the printer in 2019 and it worked great up till now. Is it just time to get a new one? There is nothing wrong with this one!!!! Thanks!

Hi @Gummie22,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M29w is in good working condition but is struggling to reconnect to your network after the macOS update. The flashing blue light indicates that the printer is attempting to establish a Wi-Fi connection. Since the usual fixes haven’t resolved the issue, here are some steps you can try to reconnect your printer to the network.

Reset the Printer’s Network Settings

  • On your M29w printer, press and hold the Wireless button (or Wi-Fi button) for at least 20 seconds until the wireless light starts blinking. This resets the network settings to factory defaults.

Reconnect Using WPS

  • After resetting the network, press the Wireless button again to put the printer in WPS mode.
  • Quickly press the WPS button on your router within 2 minutes.
  • Wait for the printer’s blue light to become solid, indicating a successful connection.

Use HP Smart App for Setup

  • Download the HP Smart app from the Mac App Store if you don’t already have it.
  • Open the app and select Set up a new printer. Follow the on-screen instructions to connect your printer to the network.

Check Printer Firmware

  • Ensure your printer firmware is up to date. You can update the firmware using the HP Smart app or by visiting HP Customer Support.

Manually Assign an IP Address

  • Connect your printer to your computer via USB.
  • Use the embedded web server (EWS) by entering the printer's default IP address in your browser.
  • Navigate to the Network Settings and manually assign an IP address, subnet mask, and gateway to ensure a stable connection.

macOS Printing System Reset

If you haven’t already tried, reset the macOS printing system:

  • Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  • Right-click (or Control-click) in the printer list and select Reset printing system.
  • Add the printer again once the system reset is complete.

Wi-Fi Compatibility

Ensure your router is broadcasting a 2.4 GHz network, as many HP printers are not compatible with 5 GHz-only networks.

USB Connection Option

If wireless connectivity remains an issue, consider connecting the printer via USB. It may be a temporary solution, but it keeps your printer operational.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
