HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281fdw
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Hello,

I am addressing HP not the people who help me.

Sorry HP folks. I buy ever since original HP toner cartridges for hundreds of Euros but HP does not let me print and scan wirelessly flawless in the network. Do you think my next MFP will be a HP product? Keep on dreaming, HP.

HP suggestion for solving the error: Ist das Gerät mit demselben Neztwerk verbunden wie der PC? Translation: Is the MFP connected with the same network than the computer?

Installation (11).jpg

And then follows PC Network Name (SSID): AVM2.4GHz if I connected the computer to the 2.4 GHz band or PC Network Name (SSID): AVM5GHZ if I connected the computer to the 5 GHz band . It should be noted that the SSID, i.e. the name of the radio band, is not the PC network name. HP suggests that “connected to the same network” means “connected to the same radio band.”

The MFP is connected to the SSID AVM2.4GHz. However, the HP software repeats the same question even when the computer and MFP are connected to the same SSID AVM2.4GHz.

What is the problem? The problem is partially that you offer fake solutions waisting the time of innocent users.

Fake HP solution: Computer and MFP must be connected to the same SSID.

Fake HP solution: Update the printer firmware

Do two different SSIDs, one SSID for the 2,4-GHz-band (AVM2,4GHz) and another SSID for the 5-GHz-band (AVM5GHz), both SSIDs belonging to the same Fritz!Box router, mean that these two SSIDs are not in the same network?

Answere: No.

Whether these two SSIDs, belonging to the same Fritz!Box router, are in the same network, is defined by the IP-Address and the subnet mask. If the IP-Address of the SSID of the 2,4-GHz-Band and the IP-Address of the SSID of the 5-GHz-Band belong to the same IPv4 Address range of the same subnet mask both SSIDs belong to the same network. Different SSIDs belonging to the same Fritz!Box router always span up the same network. Anything else would be stupid.

If HP suggests that ‘belonging to the same network‘ means that the SSID to which the computer is wirelessly connected and the SSID to which the MFP is wirelessly connected must be the same SSID than this is just wrong. This misjudgement of HP might be nourished by the fact that the HP software is scrap.

How can I know for sure that the HP software for the HP Color LaserJet 281 fdw is scrap? Easyly. If I can at least connect the printer wirelessly using the windows routine ‘Create a TCP/IP Port in Windows‘ this proves that the printer and the computer having different SSIDs can be connected to the same network. Installation by adding a standard TCP/IP printer port in Windows gives access to wireless printing but not to wireless scanning.

But even if the SSID to which computer and MFP are connected is the same SSID the HP software for the wireless connection of the MFP via WSD port is not installed and therefore the HP Color LaserJet 281 fdw can not be used for wirelessly printing AND scanning in the network.

Fritz!Box preconfigured factory settings:

IPv4 Settings (1).png

IPv4 Settings (2).png

If the computer is connected to the 5-GHz-Band and has assinged the IP Address 192.168.178.25 and the HP Color LaserJet 281 fdw is connected to the 2,4-GHz-Band and has assigned the IP Address 192.168.178.88, same subnet mask, both bands belonging to the same Fritz!Box router, then the computer and the HP Color LaserJet 281 fdw are in the same network.

Firmware Updates never improved reliability of the HP Color LaserJet 281 fdw regarding the installation in the wireless network.

Your HP software for the HP Color LaserJet 281 fdw is a pain in my a**.

It needs to much effort still not to be able to use the HP Software for wirelessly printing AND wirelessly scanning.

My solution for the future: My next MFP will be no HP product.
