Hi @cbxjeff

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how frustrating it must feel when the driver package refuses to extract and even prevents you from deleting the output file.

You’ve already tried working with the driver, so let’s carefully go through steps that can clear the blockage and get the printer software installed smoothly.

  1. First, restart the computer to release any file locks that may be preventing extraction or deletion.

  2. Navigate to the folder where the driver file was extracted. Try deleting the incomplete output folder after the restart.

  3. Download a fresh copy of the driver package for your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw directly from HP’s official site:
HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw Printer Drivers
Save the file to a simple location such as the Desktop.

  4. Right‑click the downloaded driver file and select “Run as administrator.” This ensures the installer has full permission to extract and install.

  5. If the installer still fails to extract, use the built‑in Windows tool:
    • Right‑click the driver file.
    • Choose “Open with” > “Windows Explorer” to manually extract the contents.
    • Once extracted, run the “Setup.exe” file inside the folder.

  6. After installation, restart the PC again and test printing.

Here is another helpful HP guide that explains how to install printer software using downloaded drivers:
HP Printers - Installing and Using the Printer Driver (Windows)

By following these steps, you should be able to clear the stuck output file and complete the driver installation. If the file still resists deletion after restart, try deleting it in Safe Mode, which ensures no background process is holding it.
