I have a HP Color Laser MFP 178nw (product number 4ZB96A, model name MFP178nw) 

 

Without any warning it has started to only print black and white images. Before it happened, 2 cartridges where ran completely blank, but the remaining colors where still available.

I replaced the cartridges and they are recognised and reported as 100% full. But all images are coming as black and white.

Tested printing from:

* windows 11 (the setting 'use monochrome' is not set 🙂 )

* Android phone

* demo page from the printer itself

 

HP smart application is connecting to the printer and reporting everything as ok, all levels in cartridges are good

Edit: I reinstalled the old cartridges (that where empty) for testing and the output was still completely black and white, but software reported correctly that they where empty

A small update on the matter. I managed to access the tech menu and from there i could printout the error information report.

From there, there is an "ITB Home Error", with code "C5-1710" and the page count for it is 1728 color, 214 mono

Currently the page count is 1765 color and 225 mono so i believe this is when this issue has started. Also it seems that the printer thinks it is printing colored pages (37 colors and 8 monos from the error occured)

 

Is this something that is related to the "no colors issue"? Can i try something to be resetted/cleaned/etc?

 

There are no active errors indicated anywhere (machine itself, web interface, hp admin app, etc)
