I have a Mack Book Air, MacOS Sonoma and HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 3301. My computer is updated, both are on the same network, I have uninstalled and reinstalled the printer, unplugged and restarted, etc. I can print from my apple phone however, when I send things to print from my computer it pauses. Help!!

Hi @KAB6,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Thank you for reaching out. We understand that you're unable to print from your MacBook Air (macOS Sonoma) to your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 3301, even though both are on the same network and your iPhone prints successfully. When printing from your Mac, the job enters a "paused" state. This typically indicates a driver issue, connection problem, or a misconfigured print queue.
1. Delete the Printer Completely
- Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
- Select your printer and click “Remove Printer” (-).
- Confirm deletion.
2. Reset the Printing System
This clears any stuck queues and preferences.
- Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
- Right-click (or Control + click) anywhere in the list of printers.
- Choose "Reset printing system...".
- Enter your password if prompted.
- Restart your Mac.
3. Reinstall Using AirPrint (Preferred on macOS Sonoma)
Apple recommends using AirPrint for HP printers with macOS Sonoma:
- Go to HP Printer Drivers: HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 3301-3304 3388 Printer Series Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support
- If a macOS driver is not listed, your printer uses AirPrint, which should be auto detected.
Add the printer again:
- Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
- Click the "+" to add a printer.
- Select your HP printer from the list (make sure it shows “AirPrint” next to “Use”).
- Click Add.
❗ Do not manually choose HP’s driver if AirPrint is available—it avoids compatibility issues on newer macOS versions.
4. Try a Test Print
- Open any document.
- Go to File > Print.
- Ensure your printer is selected and not paused.
- If it still shows “Paused”, click Resume.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
