Hello All:
Need an actual driver for Mac OS 15.0.1 (not AirPrint) for my MFP M277dw because the unit will only scan if the printer USB cable is connected. Evidently, AirPrint does not allow scanning with this version of Mac OS. The printer prints perfectly via WIFI, but cannot connect to the scanner (get a "no connection" error message if trying to scan) unless the cable is connected, which, of course, is an issue with multiple remote locations that rely on the WIFI network to access the printer.
Hoping for a solution from the community!
Thanx!

Hi @Bilgewater2
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
To enable scanning functionality for your HP MFP M277dw on macOS 15.0.1 without using AirPrint, you will need to install the correct drivers. Here’s how to do it:
Step 1: Uninstall Existing Printer Drivers
- Open System Preferences: Click on the Apple logo in the top left corner and select System Preferences.
- Printers & Scanners: Go to Printers & Scanners.
- Remove Existing Printer: Select your HP printer from the list and click the - button to remove it.
Step 2: Download the HP Smart App or Full Feature Software
- HP Smart App: Go to the HP Smart app page and download the app for macOS. This app allows you to manage your printer and scan documents.
- Full Feature Software: Alternatively, visit the HP Support website and search for your printer model (MFP M277dw). Look for the "Full Feature Software and Drivers" section and download the appropriate driver for macOS.
Step 3: Install the Driver
- Run the Installer: Open the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions to install the software.
- Add the Printer: During the installation, ensure your printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Mac.
Step 4: Connect to the Printer
- Open HP Smart: If you installed the HP Smart app, open it and add your printer.
- Testing the Scan Function: In the app, select the scanning option to see if it connects without needing the USB cable.
Step 5: Check Printer Settings
- Open Printers & Scanners: Go back to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
- Select Your Printer: Ensure that your HP printer is set as the default printer.
- Check Options & Supplies: Click on your printer, then Options & Supplies to ensure the correct drivers are being used.
Step 6: Update macOS and Drivers
- macOS Update: Ensure your macOS is updated to the latest version. Go to System Preferences > Software Update.
- Driver Update: Check for any additional updates for the HP driver via the HP Smart app or the support website.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi!
You suggestion does not work in my situation because when I go to HP Downloads and try to download the driver the system says there are no drivers available! I follow the prompts and the system evidently looks at the printer and my operating system and reports no software available! Can you send me the driver outside of the HP website?
Thanx!

Hi Rachel!
No dice on using reply. Yes, I was able to download the HP-Smart app onto there MacBook Pro, but I do not want to use a silly app to scan from the laptop, what I want to do is download a driver to the computer that will allow me to scan. I can print fine, but can't scan without the USB printer cable connected. We can all print from anywhere in the house, and we only need to scan from the laptop. Through the app, I tried to get a driver, but the same thing happens; HP says there are no drivers for a Mac for the printer! Can that be true? Would you please check and see if there is a driver for a Mac. My OS is currently 15.0.1 (and is about to update). The HP download site says there isn't a driver!
Thanx!
