After upgrading to Big Sur I couldn't print to my Inkjet 4500 because of the incompatible printer drivers. I naively followed HP's solution to Uninstall and reinstall the drivers only to find there are no drivers available. This printer was working perfectly before. What does HP expect us to do? Should we all ditch these printers with the resultant impact on the environment? Will the drivers for the Inkjet 4500 be available soon?

I was helped by Mde103 with the FTP link provided earlier in this thread to download a printer driver package of 583Mb which ran under Big Sur and restored full functionality to my Officejet 4500.
Thanks again Mde103

After searching through this forum, I managed to find working HP drivers for Big Sur for my DeskJet D1460 on the HP FTP site here:
HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads
I hope this works for you too.

Thanks for that but I can't open the package, I get:-
HewlettPackardPrinterDrivers.pkg” can’t be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software.
And just to clarify it's an Officejet 4500 printer, my mistake

I'm pretty sure the package contains all HP drivers.
To open it, you'll need to go to open System Preferences > Security & Privacy. Click the lock in the bottom left corner and then 'Open Anyway' on the HewlettPackardsPrinterDrivers.pkg. I didn't consider it a security risk because it's definitely from HP.

There seems to be a problem with this thread - can't access the message with the FTP solution but I have it in an email.
I went through the FTP route and downloaded the package and then was able to reinstall my printer with FULL functionality.
Thanks for that.

I don't know what happened to that message! I'm glad you finally got it working.
For future reference, in case anyone finds this thread while searching for answers: for some reason, downloading the drivers direct does not seem to work, you will need to use another ftp service.
