HP Color Laserjet Pro MFP 4302

We are having multiple issues with one of printers HP Color Laserjet Pro MFP 4302. Ever since we have got this printer it has just caused issues. We have had it for less than a year.

The first issue - When we are attempting to Scan sometimes the actual 'Scan' button that will start the scan will be greyed out and the only way of fixing this will be to restart the printer. After restarting the 'Scan' option will become usable and will allow you to scan documents. We scan quite a lot so it becomes annoying to restart the printer constantly throughout the day when this issue happens.

Second Issue - When having the option to scan something and we attempt to scan something to a network share it's always 50/50 if the file will end up on the network share or not. It scans to an on-premises file server which works all the time for all the other printers.

Third issue - We set what we want the scanned document to be called and again it's a 50/50 if it Scans with the correct name or just something random.

The printer also calibrates a lot and I'm not too familiar with how often this should happen with this type of printer but it feels like when we need to use it is calibrating for 2-3 mins each time.

We have also had many other issues with this printer along the way and have found ways to fix them but these issues we are unable to. I checked to see if our printer is under warranty but just got the following error.

I would just like to mention that the firmware for the printer is fully up to date.

If someone can advise on any of the issues or how I can check the warranty of my printer a different way it would be much appreciated.

Thank you!

Hi @bp044,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing a range of issues with your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 4302. Here are some steps you can take to address each of these issues.

Scan Button Greyed Out

  1. Firmware Update: You mentioned that the firmware is up to date, which is good. Ensure that this includes any recent patches specifically addressing scanning issues.
  2. Printer Reset: Perform a factory reset of the printer. This can sometimes resolve persistent issues.
  3. Driver Update: Ensure that the drivers for your printer are up to date on all connected computers.
  4. HP Smart App: Try using the HP Smart app for scanning. Sometimes, the app can provide better stability and functionality.
  5. Network Issues: Ensure that the printer has a stable network connection. Fluctuations in the network can cause the scan button to be greyed out.

Scanning to Network Share

  1. Network Configuration: Verify the network settings and ensure that the printer has the correct permissions to access the network share.
  2. Folder Permissions: Check the permissions of the folder on the network share to ensure that the printer has write access.
  3. Consistency Check: Try scanning to a different network share to see if the problem persists. This can help determine if the issue is with the printer or the specific network share.
  4. Logs: Check the printer's event log for any errors that occur when a scan fails. This can provide insight into what might be causing the issue.

Incorrect File Naming

  1. Consistent Naming Convention: Set a standard naming convention in the printer's settings to ensure consistency.
  2. Scan Profiles: Create and use scan profiles for different types of scans. This can help ensure that the correct naming conventions and settings are applied.
  3. Firmware Bug: This could be a firmware bug. Even though the firmware is up to date.

Calibration Frequency

  1. Calibration Settings: Check the printer’s settings for calibration. Some printers allow you to adjust how often calibration occurs.
  2. Firmware Update: Make sure the firmware update includes improvements for calibration frequency.
  3. Environmental Factors: Ensure the printer is in a stable environment. Temperature and humidity fluctuations can cause the printer to calibrate more frequently.

By following these steps, you should be able to mitigate or resolve the issues you're experiencing with your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 4302.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
