Officejet 8702
Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit)

We discovered we couldn't send anything to our Officejet 8702, so knowing software can go haywire, I uninstalled the printer software, then reinstalled it, three times.  After doing the suggested activities, turning off firewall, disabling anti-virus, none of which made a difference,  I even checked our router and the router sees the printer.  Even Scan Doctor sees the printer, and can have the printer print an internal page but not a test page.

After digging around, trying this and that, according to what was on screen, I finally discovered the driver for Microsoft Teredo Tunneling Adapter was not loading.  I'm not sure, but when setup gets to Step 3 Activate, it says there is no connection to the internet, then goes on to bring up other popups to try and resolve the issue.  I know nothing about Microsoft Teredo Tunneling Adapter but it would seem unless this is working correctly, printer setup can't finish and we can't send anything to the printer.

Hi Paul,

Yeah, according to what I found, if the Teredo Tunneling Adapter exists, and you follow the YouTube video, a second instance of the adapter will be installed; a subscript 2 will be next to the one just installed.

However, the problem with the Teredo adapter has been fixed, at least the PC is happy.  Somehow the Registry setting had been changed to disable, and the site I found showed how to reset it to enable.

Now my only problem is reinstalling the software for our HP 8702, which keeps stopping at the activate stage, claiming the internet connection has not been found.  I know better than that 123 installation software that the internet connection has not been found, so something is blocking it from seeing the internet connection.

I previously said I had shut off Windows firewall, but found out I hadn't shut it off.  But when I tried installing the software a third time, fourth time, or how many times I've tried, I made sure the firewall was off.  Even with the firewall off, the 123 install software still stopped at stage 3, Activate, again claiming the internet connection cannot be found.

I checked on the HP site for a solution, but they're ones I've already tried.  I'm stumped, completely.  I even went into c:\ drive under the HP file and deleted everything possible, after going to Programs and Features and uninstalling programs there.

It sure would be nice if someone has run into this same problem and has the magic answer.

Hi:

See if watching this video allows you to install the driver for that device...

Hi Paul,

I've already tried that step, all it did was to install a second instance of the Teredo Tunnel Adapter.  The error message shown while I was trying to solve the printer problem, was that the driver for the Teredo Tunnel Adapter couldn't be loaded.  And it's this problem that I now think must be solved.  So, how does one go about loading a driver for this adapter?

Unfortunately, that I do not know.

I figured that would have installed the one that needed installing, not install a second instance of it.

You could try right clicking on it, select Uninstall, check the uninstall driver box, restart the PC and see if that fixes the problem.

Additional information:

We can now send documents from the computer, though still having trouble with completing the printer setup.  Scan software was missing so had to download Basic Drivers to fix that problem.  But the complete setup has never completed.

Turning off Windows 7 firewall didn't affect the completion of setup, it still wouldn't complete.  Same with turning off the anti-virus on our PC.  But, we can send docs to the printer from our PC.

More Information:

I was fighting two unknown devices on our PC.  Found out they were missing drivers for our officejet 8702 printer.  In device manager only one of the unknown devices was shown the first time I looked for the unknown devices.  When I ran troubleshooter on this device, three drivers were found.  I had no idea which driver was needed so I worked my way down the list until the Null driver was able to be installed.

However, there was still an unknown device causing problems.  I was able to learn how to find out what this device was by going into Device Manager and under View, select show all hidden devices.  As it turned out, the unknown device was another instance of our 8702 printer.  The simple fix was to delete this unknown device since Device Manager already showed our printer in the listing.

However, however...installing and setting up the 8702 on our PC still hangs up after the step to connect our printer to our network, router, and asked if the printer was installed using its IP address--which it wasn't.  After connecting our printer to our network, router, and before selecting Next in the setup window, I disabled Windows Firewall, Malwarebytes, and Security Essentials.  But had the same results.  So with all security software disabled or enables, the setup doesn't complete to Activate the printer step.

I'm totally at a loss what to do next, even though we can now send docs to the printer, it would be nice to have the setup completed.
