Have just recently received message that printhead is missing and can no longer print.  There does not appear to be any downloads for this most of the drivers are for windows/Linux.

@LizzOZ, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Missing Printhead Message!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If you are receiving a message indicating that a printhead is missing and are unable to print, here are some steps you can take to resolve the issue:

Check Printhead Installation: Ensure that the printhead is properly installed and seated in the printer. Remove the printhead, inspect it for any damage, and then reinsert it carefully.

Clean Electrical Contacts: Sometimes, the electrical contacts between the printhead and the printer can become dirty or obstructed. Carefully clean these contacts using a lint-free cloth. You can use a mild rubbing alcohol if moisture is needed, but avoid using water.

Printhead Status Messages:

  • OK: The printhead is working normally, with no known problems.
  • Missing: There is no printhead present, or it is not correctly installed in the printer. Remove the printhead and reinsert it properly.
  • Reseat: You are recommended to remove the printhead and then reinsert it. If problems persist, clean the connections as described above.
  • Replace: The printhead may be failing. Consider replacing it with a new printhead.

Test Printhead Individually: Try testing the printheads individually to identify if one is failing. Remove all printheads and insert them one at a time, checking the printer's display for messages.

Firmware Update: Make sure your printer’s firmware is up to date. You can often find this on the printer's support page on the HP website.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
