HP OfficeJet 5258 All-in-One Printer

Bought a used HP5258 All-In-One listed as "Tested-Works Great". Plug it in and not the normal initialization menu but hey, its used. It asked for paper, done. It asked for print cartridges, put in some generic 63XL's. Figured it would tell me they were incompatible but instead I get; "Use SETUP cartridges" "Use SETUP cartridges that came with your printer". I'm an HPSmart subscriber so I go through support and it says "If SETUP cartridges were not included in  the box, return the printer". All sorts of hacks on youtube says find the Support menu, then the configuration menu, then the Trade 00BE. But when I go to support menu and configuration menu I get "Hardware Failure Statue" (which I cleared just in case), and Set Boot Mode to User Mode" which I don't understand. I do not get what everyone on line is saying "Trade 00BE". Is my HP5258 unsalvageable since SETUP cartridges aren't available online and I get the sneaking suspicion that if I were to find  a pair online they wouldn't work because they were not original to my serial number printer. I think I read online someone already was taken by that one. HELP PLEASE.
