Smart UPD V4
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello All,

Here is the situation:

We install the SUPD V4 drivers by GPO (local copy on C:\ drive + Pre-stage + Driver install) with admin rights.

No issue at all with this part, the driver can be used by anyone on the computer.

We want our user to be able to install a TCP/IP printer by script and by using the already present driver for the HP printer.

We use a simple powershell script that does not require any admin rights

Add-PrinterPort -Name $PrinterIP -PrinterHostAddress $PrinterIP
Add-Printer -Name $PrinterName -drivername $Driver -Port $PrinterIP

The printer is created and can be used directly by end user

Pb is the printer is not fully "scanned" and not all of its capabilities are brought up to windows.

As a result, for example Windows does not know it has duplex or color feature.

To patch this, the user has to go into "print preferences" to bring the Smart UPD menu and click on the circle next to the printer to refresh its configuration.

the system is fecthing during a couple of seconds and then we see all of its features (duplex, color, ...)

If we install the printer with adminrights and the Smart UPD installer, the circle is not present and the capabilities are already brought up.

Does anyone know how to deal with that and force a refresh by script from a non-admin install ?

Thanks.

Hello Raj,

Here are the answers:

- i have the issue on all models my company is using, E45028, E42540, E40040.

- no error message during installation, nor during print

- it has never worked when installed it with user rights

- it is not related to PC as the same install works with admin rights

as i said i have to manually refresh the features from the printer to get useable within Windows.
