Hi @Scarlet5150,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Envy 7640 printer stopped working after an electrical blackout, there are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

1. Check Power Supply

Inspect Power Cable and Connection:

  • Ensure that the power cable is securely plugged into both the printer and the electrical outlet.
  • If possible, try using a different power outlet to rule out issues with the outlet.

Check for Power Strip Issues:

  • If you're using a power strip or surge protector, ensure it is functioning correctly and try plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.

2. Reset the Printer

Perform a Power Cycle:

  • Turn off the printer by pressing the power button.
  • Unplug the printer from the power source.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • If the power cycle doesn’t help, try a hard reset:
    • Turn off the printer.Unplug it from the power source and disconnect any cables (USB or network).
    • Wait for at least 60 seconds.Plug the printer back in and reconnect the cables.
    • Turn on the printer.

3. Check for Error Messages or Lights

Inspect for Error Codes:

  • Check if the printer displays any error codes or warning lights on the control panel.
  • Refer to the printer’s manual or the HP Support website for guidance on specific error codes.

Look for Printer Status:

  • The printer might display a status message or icon indicating the nature of the problem.

4. Check Printer Drivers and Software

Update Drivers:

  • Ensure that you have the latest drivers and software installed for your printer.Vthe HP Support website and search for your printer model to download the latest drivers.

Reinstall Printer Software:

  • If updating drivers doesn’t help, consider uninstalling and then reinstalling the printer software.

5. Perform Printer Self-Test

  1. Run a Self-Test or Diagnostic:
    • Use the printer’s control panel to run a self-test or diagnostic report. This can often be found under the printer’s maintenance or settings menu.

6. Check for Hardware Issues

Inspect Printer Internals:

  • Open the printer’s access doors and check for any visible issues, such as paper jams or foreign objects.

Check Cartridges and Paper:

  • Ensure that the ink cartridges are properly installed and that there is paper loaded in the tray.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
