HP Smart Tank 5105 All-in-One Printer

I recently changed the router and since then my printer will not work wirelessly but will work with a cable, when printing a single document it stops half way and prints the rest on another sheet of paper.

Perhaps you do not have a working application or full driver installed and Windows has set your "Driver" in Printer Properties to the IPP / Microsoft drivers.

This is fine, though you do lose many of the printer's features, including 2-sided printing.

Neither HP Smart or its replacement, HP App, are happy in a USB only connection setup.

The full solution includes fixing the problem you are experiencing with the wireless connection.

-- What if? --

  • If all else fails, check the user guide for how to use Wi-Fi Direct -- a limited wireless connection is better than no wireless connection.

AND

  • After a wireless connection is reestablished, check -- and if necessary, correct -- Printer Properties.  An example is included later in this message.

-- Preparation --

User Guide – HP DeskJet 2900, Ink Advantage 2900, Ink Advantage Ultra 5100, DeskJet 4300, Ink Advan...

  • Read Chapter 2 - Starting on Page 14
  • Search the user guide for every instance of " ews "  (space front and back of the letters ews)
  • Check information in section Restore printer network settings from the control panel (Wi-Fi models) - Page 79

-- HP Documents / guides / troubleshooting --

Restore Wi-Fi setup mode on your HP printer

Next,

HP Printers - Use a Wireless Test report to test the printer connection

and, if necessary --

HP printer is offline or unavailable

Example – EWS Setup – IPv4

EWS > HP Document / How-to (Basic format)

Use the HP printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)

NOTE:  Find printer IP address

Section Open the EWS over a local network orientation

Alternate EWS format (Select newer printers and select Laser Printers)

Open your Browser >

Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Note → If the browser security will not let you open EWS, try a different browser.

Section Network > Primary Ethernet

Check / Adjust Status > IPv4

OR

Check / Adjust IP Config > IPv4

OR

Open your Browser >

Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Note → If the browser security will not let you open EWS, try a different browser.

Section Network > Wi-Fi > Section IP Config > IPv4

Notes

  • If your browser security will not allow you to open EWS, try a different browser.
  • It is not mandatory that you use a manual / static IP address.  Doing so can improve stability.
  • If needful and if supported, set the Band Frequency to the frequency you want the printer to use.
  • If you assign a manual / static address on the printer, update your router to reflect the assigned IP address.
  • EWS sections might be locked and require the printer’s PIN number to access.  Find the printer’s default PIN inside the ink cartridge ink cartridge / area, or perhaps on the bottom or back of the printer.  Check your printer’s User Guide first chapter for details – search the document for “ PIN “.
