My HP DeskJet Plus 4100 is not working. Tried to update driver and was told prntr serial no expired

My wi fi connection is poor.  I want to use the printer with out the wi fi.  Tried to download current version of driver.  I tried and found the printer serial number is expired

Honestly, I don't have any idea how a serial number expires.

I do understand that once the Warranty is expired, you cannot submit an online repair case to HP Support.

Even so, the serial number is not "expired".

I am missing something, I guess.

OK.

You'll need a way to download and save the Web Pack Installation package.

There's no way around that.

Presumably, once the "Offline Only" package is saved on your computer (usually in Downloads), you can install the full driver printer software without having to connect to the servers.

One thing to consider -

The printer supports Wi-Fi Direct.

Note >> Wi-Fi Direct cannot help you download / save the installation package from the Product Home page.

What Wi-Fi Direct can do is create a Wireless connection between your printer and your computer using the printer's wireless radio.

While it does not give you "everything", in some ways, at least, Wi-Fi Direct might be better than resorting to using a USB cable between printing and computer.  See References later in this message.

If using a printer USB cable between the printer and the computer, disconnect the cable before installing the printer software.  Connect the cable when instructed to do so, near the end of the installation procedure.

If asked, opt for the Full Driver to be installed.

After the software is installed, Restart the computer and sign in.

The installation of the full driver generally adds at least one, possibly two shortcuts to the Desktop.

 Note:  Printer Assistant, HP Scan Assistant, and HP Scan are dependent on printer model and supported software options.
