I don't know went this is happening. It didn't use to force us to print the alignment page every time I turned my printer back on. I don't use it often so I don't keep it plugged in/powered on all the time. It's only been in the last 3 or so months that it started requiring this page to be printed every time. Was there a software update causing this? This is so ridiculous we have to waste time and money doing it just to print 1 item.

Hi @SVela

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

That would definitely wear on anyone’s patience—especially when you’re just trying to print something simple and end up wasting ink and paper.

This behaviour usually means the printer thinks the alignment process hasn’t been completed successfully, even if it has. It’s not necessarily tied to a software update, but rather how the printer stores its alignment status.

Here are some recommended steps to help stop the alignment page from printing every time:

🖨️ 1. Complete the Alignment Process Fully

  • After the alignment page prints, place it face-down on the scanner glass as prompted.
  • Press the Start Copy Color button to scan it.
  • Wait for the printer to confirm that alignment is complete.

If this scan step is skipped or not recognized, the printer will keep asking for it.

🔄 2. Check Cartridge Installation

  • Open the cartridge access door and make sure both cartridges are seated properly.
  • Gently press down on each until they click into place.
  • If the printer thinks a cartridge is new or not recognized, it may trigger alignment again.

🛠 3. Update Firmware and Software

🧪 4. Reset the Printer

  • With the printer on, unplug the power cord from the back.
  • Unplug from the wall and wait 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.

This can help clear any stuck alignment flags.

Let me know how it goes after trying these—especially if the alignment scan step completes successfully. We’ll get this sorted so your printer behaves like it used to!
