@doctorcij, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

I understand your HP ENVY 7640 is printing fine from your iPhone but not from your iMac. Let's walk through some steps to get your Mac printing again.

Restart Devices

  • Power off your printer, iMac, and Wi-Fi router.
  • Wait 30 seconds, then power them back on in this order: router → printer → iMac.

Check Printer Connection on Mac

  • On your iMac, go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  • If your printer appears offline or idle, remove it by selecting it and clicking the minus (-) button.
  • Then click the plus (+) button to re-add it. Choose the printer that shows Bonjour or AirPrint next to it.

If you don’t see your printer, make sure it’s connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your iMac.

Reset Printing System (if needed)

If re-adding doesn’t help:

  1. Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  2. Right-click (or Control + click) in the printer list and choose Reset printing system.
  3. Re-add your printer using the plus (+) button.

nstall HP Smart & Update Firmware

  • Download and install the HP Smart app for macOS. HP Smart
  • Open HP Smart, add your printer, and check for any firmware updates or network issues.

Try Printing a Test Page

  • Open any document or webpage and try printing again.
  • If it still doesn’t work, try printing from Preview or TextEdit to rule out app-specific issues.

I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.

Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!
