My HP MFP 135w unable to scan OCR

Welcome to the HP Community --

I do not believe this printer ever provided software for OCR scan.

OCR is not listed as included in the full driver printer software.

What?

Some printers that did include the embedded OCR feature had it removed in mid-2022.

No one told us why though I would guess it was either a licensing or compatibility issue.

Product Specifications for the HP Laser MFP 135w (4ZB83A)

Printer smart software features
Manual duplex and booklet print, N-up printing, skip blank pages, poster print, watermarks

I do not find your printer listed in the supported options to install the HP Universal Scan software.

IF something has changed, you might be able to install the HP Universal Scan Software

Important

The software will not install if it is incompatible with your printer.

If the software is incompatible and will not install for your printer, there is no workaround.

"Cannot install" and "Does not install" means you have to find OCR software elsewhere.

Optional – When Supported for your printer

HP Universal Scan Software –

NOTE:  Model and Operating System version Dependent

Note:  HPUSS can be installed as standalone or installed after the full feature printer software.

HP Universal Scan Full Feature Software might add OCR libraries to installed HP Scan software.

HPUSS installs a new, full featured, (and separate) HP Scan software shortcut to the Desktop.

Reference: Open  HP Universal Scan Full Feature Software  > If needful, Choose a different OS > Open all > Find / Download / Save / Install HP Universal Scan – Full Feature Software and Driver Webpack.

After the software is installed, Restart the computer and sign in.

HP Universal Scan Software provides a larger GUI to make using the software easier on high-resolution screens.   New features have been added to the main menu to help with navigating the settings.

What else?

If HP does not provide an OCR option for your printer,

Try to find, purchase, obtain OCR software to use with your printer.
